A weekly job-search routine

Use one deliberate review, a small set of alerts, and application history instead of reopening the same searches all week.

A good routine separates discovery from decision-making. Review the market once, let alerts catch new arrivals, and spend the saved time on strong applications.

Once a week: review the market

Open your country feed with Newest sorting and Hide viewed enabled:

Work down to the Older jobs divider. Above it is the recent bucket; below it is the back catalogue you have probably seen before.

For plausible jobs, open the detail page and decide:

  • eligible or unresolved;
  • strong enough fit to investigate;
  • acceptable stated pay, or worth asking despite undisclosed pay;
  • trustworthy employer and application route;
  • apply now, save with a note, or dismiss.

Do not start by adding every possible filter. The weekly pass is how you notice that your assumptions about titles, skills, or pay no longer match the market.

Keep two or three real searches

Build separate searches only when they lead to different decisions. A useful set might be:

  1. the main target, with your country and defining role;
  2. a high-pay lane with a disclosed salary floor;
  3. a worldwide lane with no geographic restriction.

Example:

https://www.remotera.ai/?country=DE&roles=backend&skills=Go%7CKubernetes&sort=relevance
https://www.remotera.ai/?country=DE&roles=backend&salary_min=140000&has_salary=true&sort=salary
https://www.remotera.ai/?worldwide=true&roles=backend&sort=date

Bookmark them. The URL is the saved search.

Let alerts handle the rest of the week

Turn each real search into a named job alert. Route personal searches to your DM; use a group, channel, or webhook only when the audience is genuinely shared.

If an alert is noisy, inspect what got through before tightening it. Add one stable deal-breaker—country, role, salary floor, or exclusion—rather than a pile of fragile keywords.

If it is silent, widen in this order:

  1. change skills from all to any;
  2. remove salary-disclosed-only or lower the floor;
  3. widen seniority by one adjacent level;
  4. remove industry or company-size restrictions.

Keep your real working country. Removing it improves the count by adding jobs you may not be able to take.

Apply in a focused block

Before the block:

  • clear profile gaps;
  • confirm the résumé or targeted CV;
  • check employer and domain;
  • prepare one or two facts that make the application specific.

After the block, open Application history. Resolve parked or failed attempts and distinguish external forms you merely opened from submissions you confirmed.

Refresh the system monthly

Once a month:

  • update skills, seniority, languages, and recent experience in your profile;
  • rerun the free CV check after material edits;
  • review alerts that never produce a plausible job;
  • revoke unused API keys;
  • remove dead destinations and stale saved searches.

The point is a smaller, trusted system—not more notifications.
